When we started Just Dotty, we had some definite ideas of what we were looking for in a tote. Really, we wanted our totes to be like the clothes we buy... stylish, well made, reflective of who we are and distinctive. We also wanted features such as pockets, snaps, and a zippered compartment. It also needed to be large enough to accomodate all the things women carry around. And, we wanted it to last. How many times have we all bought something that looked cute, only to have it fall apart way too soon?

And so it began...

Our first decision to make was the fabric. After using several totes made from lighter weight materials, we realized that upholstery weight was the way to go.  Plus, we also added individual stain repellant treatment to each tote.

Next decision?  How many snaps should we include?  It took us just one airplane flight to determine the location of the snaps.  When the tote's contents flew out from up in the overhead compartment, that told us we needed two snaps to keep everything contained.

The first handles we designed were too long.  The tote didn't fit securely under our arms, and ultimately we discovered that shorter straps are better.

Then came the decision for the zipper.  Should it be on the inside of the tote or on top? Easy accessibility was important to us, so we opted for a secure interior zipped pocket.

Purse feet came after we used our first totes and watched them get soiled.

The shallow pockets for cell phone and keys came when we lost our keys in the bottom of the tote, not to mention losing our phones while they rang until voice mail picked up.  That's just not good to miss a phone call! So larger pockets have proved perfect for makeup bags, bottled water, sunglass cases, baby toys, umbrellas and pretty much anything you want.

The size of the tote bag was also important.  We needed something small enough to fit under an airline seat, yet large enough to fit a laptop (essential tote) or notebook/Kindle e-reader (city tote).

Finally, we had had enough of totes and bags that were heavy before we filled them, so we constructed each Dotty tote to be as lightweight as possible, yet made to last.

Bottom line with all our totes?  We've made them with you, our customers, in mind.  We create our totes by focusing on style, fashion, and functionality.
